Laser cutting and toiling

Design work

My current work in progress started from the idea of design for disassembly – garments that can come apart for ease of recycling. Although this was the germ of the idea, the process from then on evolved into something rather less practical.

Using the grid system developed in an earlier project, I experimented with laser cutting transparent silks and knotting them together to form garments. The knotting becomes structural – in lieu of stitching – but also decorative.

As a textile embellishment, the knotting and layering has a lot of potential. These are knotted with merino jersey, but I will try other approaches too.
